Coming on the main road from Rio de Janeiro to the Lake District and about 3 km before you get to Saquarema turn right at the junction where there is a well-known Restaurant. Passing through the nice village you continue for about 800 metres on a dirt road and you find that precious hide-away. The Brazilians call a place like that a "Chacara", where rich city-dwellers escape for the weekend. This house you see in the photo is surrounded by one hectare (10.000 sq mt or 2.2 acres) of garden and plantation.

- The house itself has about 110 m2 constructed area, on one floor: A big living-room with an open-plan kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom. There is a large veranda in front of the house with two entrances: one leading to the kitchen and the other one to the living room. The house is about 15 years old and needs some cosmetic work to bring it up to date.
The tiled Churrasqueira is covered and has its own bathroom and an open-air shower. There is a large open area in front of it.
The housekeepers cottage is much smaller and contains living room / kitchen a bathroom and the bedroom. It needs some renovation to change it into a nice guesthouse.
The front of the house is laid out to grass and palm trees. There are a lot of tropical trees and plants close to the house: Bougainvillea, Mango, big Frangipani (Hawaian tree) with wonderful flowers, different species of palms. You will be delighted to find a shaded place like that, where you can park your car under old trees.
The water supply is excellent. The land has its own well. Of course there is electricity (110 V) and telephone lines are nearby. There is a TV satellite dish installed at the house and cellular network coverage is good. So you stay in contact with civilization!
The plantation area has been cleared of shrubbery recently in order to plant Quiabo, Aipim (=Manioc), Pumpkin, Beans and Corn. The Banana Grove is already producing a lot of tasty fruit, which you cannot compare with the supermarket varieties. You even find wild strawberries growing near the small stream coming from the upper parts of the hills.
In our opinion the lower part of the banana grove can leave room for a large pond which can easily be created from the small stream of fresh water that runs through here.
This is the place for somebody who wants to live the country life but not too far away from civilization. You can see but not hear your nearest neighbours. The nearest town with all its amenities is 10 minutes drive away, the beach with its endless white sand half an hour away!
