Drive out of the town centre of Bacaxa, follow the main road that goes from Rio to the Lake District for 300 metres, go through a hidden gate and it takes your breath away: you would never have expected a “botanical garden” in woodlands with more than 200 varieties of palm trees. The path to paradise is narrow and not easy – it needs to be tarmacced. But it’s worth while as it will take your breath away again when you reach the top of the hill and the flat garden area leading to the entrance of the pagoda-shaped house, dominated by the imperial palms which are taller than the house itself.

The house and its grounds cover an area of 3433 sq mt: the price for this is 170,000 Reais. If you would prefer the whole land area of 10,000 sq mt (a hectare) the price is 240,000 Reais. Imagine a hectare of “botanical gardens” just off the town centre!

The house itself is on 4 floors with a total area of about 150 sq mt. If you click on the photos you will find the plans showing the layout of the house.

On the first level there is a bedroom with a bathroom and a storeroom. Go up the staircase and you will find a large living room, a bathroom and the kitchen. The next floor has 2 bedrooms and a large bathroom. The top floor is a study/observation room with panoramic views over the town and the hills.

The second and third floors are surrounded by verandas with fantastic views to the sea and the famous historic church of Saquarema.

The garden area at the entrance to the house needs some creative modification: the original idea was to use it as a helipad.

These palms are only one species out of nearly 200 varieties in the park

The tower dominates the hill with a spectacular view

The private path to the hill is flanked by palm trees but needs some tarmac or cement to improve it

The house has two verandas with seaviews. If you glass in these verandas, thus increasing the living space and also incorporate the staircase into the house, you will create a more proportional layout and more extensive and spacious recreational areas.

You can use your "castle" as your residence, but the distance of 300 metres to the main road that connects Rio to Buzios offers other possibilities:

The site could also be used as a restaurant or cafe by day, and a nightclub by night. Bacaxa is also in need of a smart dance club.

The land surrounding the house lends itself to the construction of guest houses or to build a “pousada” (a bed-and-breakfast), nor just for summer tourism but also for year-round business. The entrance to the complex is only 300 metres from the main road. This will give easy access to the new motorway which will be built to reach Macae, an offshore drilling boomtown.

Within the complex there are several small houses hidden amongst the trees and a few of these are for sale. Better that you come here and view for yourself what an enchanting and unique place this is in Saquarema.

If you want to live near the town centre but away from the noise and hassle, this is an excellent solution. In five minutes you are at the bakery for your daily bread or at the supermarket for your “pasta al dente” that you have run out of.
